Abed was not just a world class civil engineer; he dedicated half a century until his death in December 2019 as servant leader. Aligned by HG Wells bon mots: civilisation is a race between education and catastrophe, Abed Bhai preferred to be seen as host of microeducationsummit not financiers summits: his gravitation purpose of 30 women empowered cooperations that of united refugees, villagers and civil societies in ENDING POVERTY. From 1970 on Abed linked in global village mapping like no one else - through these relationships and by designing business microfrachises not charity wherever possible for village women to own. To study with abed alumni is to join in the world's most cooperative empowering women movements for good as well as of childrens development.

kNOWLEDGE SHARING PANEL | JAPAN STAGE

HOST: UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME & INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND

The disruption and devastation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the inter-dependencies and connectedness of our economy, society and the environment. While the deadly pandemic left millions jobless, we have seen the worst crash of the stock market last March followed by a massive injection by central banks and later a stock market boom in the US and others in a short period of time. As we start to bounce back from the pandemic, it is clear that our growth trajectory was not sustainable and we must find a way to balance our financial system with economic, social and environmental outcomes. We are now at a turning point for people and our planet, and our financial system must be on the same page to deliver the SDGs, which have been subjected to a drastic setback due to the pandemic. In 2020, UNDP established SDG Impact, a common framework for the investors and enterprises to measure, manage and communicate the SDG contribution in a consistent and transparent manner. Despite the global recession, growing interest in sustainable investing is a clear sign that the investors and enterprises also recognize the need for a system change. The IMF is integrating climate change risks into its core activities of macroeconomic policy advice, capacity development and lending in recent years, and now advocates more sustainable finance and a greener recovery from the pandemic. After an introduction by the IMF on the economic outlook of our world beyond COVID-19, a panel discussion with the experts in sustainable finance will envisage how we should turn around our financial system for an sustainable future. What is the role of finance in the face of climate change? What are some practical ways to aim for a financial system to align with the SDGs and green recovery? We welcome investors and enterprises interested in ESG investment and green recovery as well as those interested in learning more about the issue, especially youth, to join this stimulating discussion.
