Abed was not just a world class civil engineer; he dedicated half a century until his death in December 2019 as servant leader. Aligned by HG Wells bon mots: civilisation is a race between education and catastrophe, Abed Bhai preferred to be seen as host of microeducationsummit not financiers summits: his gravitation purpose of 30 women empowered cooperations that of united refugees, villagers and civil societies in ENDING POVERTY. Fortunately for the worlds poorest new nation Bangaldesh 1971- Abed had networks like no other community leader. HIs friends' coop roadmapping reached out to intel vitalised by at least a billion village mothers in tropical inland asia where, a third of infants were dying of diarrhea before Abed's person to person networking became the best news ever chatted. Fro mid 1950s studies in Glasgow he spent nearly 13 years growing to be Royal Dutch Shell Oil Company's regional CEO. So his lifetime searches uniquely capitalised on what UK and Dutch Royal Societies (soon Japan Royals too) knew how to help end the poverty their colonial era had up to 1945 trapped the majority of humans world trade in. Simply put most Asian coastal belts link national borders defined by what these < a href="http://www.kc3.dev">3 kingdoms designed in to trading barriers over nearly half millennium. And which had made the English language that of world class engineering (digital age as well as pre-digital) So by 1970s these nations royal societies (including londons arts green-geographical, medicinie, science, architects ...) were happy that a grounded movement could link them into what they didnt fully know culturally or consciously. From 1970 on Abed linked in global village mapping like no one else - through these relationships and by designing business microfrachises not charity wherever possible for village women to own. To study with abed alumni is to join in the world's most cooperative empowering women movements for good as well as of childrens development.

fall 2022 exciting updates on Economistfood.com

Sorry i missed live announcement of this cornell event but it seems to be on replay. Bangladesh's Fazle Abed was the person I most learnt from in life -motivating 16 trips to Bangladesh   https://cals.cornell.edu/hope-over-fate-fazle-hasan-abed-and-science-ending-global-poverty While Macmillan's new book on Abed is authoritative it misses the story Abed always used to talk about to me as a statistician of hi-trust media (dad having survived ww2 as teen navigator allied bomber command Burma was Futurist of Optimism at the economist; so japan embassy arranged 2 brainstorming sessions chaired by abed in remembrance). To me and female graduate journalists,  Abed said dont write up case studies without valuing the design of Cooperation Platforms of Womens Community Building. This echoed advice Unilever had given me when i first researched their brands in Asia beginning with Indonesia in 1983 and connected with Kim's job interview with Obama on his mothers contribution to Indonesia and womens world banking. Abed saw his first 25 years with rural villagers as women cooperation platforms in SHELFF - Safety Health Education Leadership Food Finance. When a Japanese partner from Silicon Valley brought brac internet from 1996 - abed extended this to SHELFF-MY-U where m-Mobile Y=youth U=university Cooperation Platforms. This can be relevant now to urgent 2020s mediation challenges.  I was at first review of sdg4 education held NY Un sept 2016. Feedback was achieving SDG4 was next to hopeless . Most took this to mean we have huge amount more fund raising to do. But Jim Kim and those who knew Abed deepest went on a Digital Cooperation crusade connecting Educators with Geneva's Tech ITU, Unctad World Trade mapping & WHO. This became Guterres UN2 https://www.un.org/techenvoy/content/ongoing-work as well as UN rankings on egov where Mongolia's egov empowering agricultural networks featured as 2022 stars of global digital with UN Envoy (Amandeep's next Asian foci G20 Indonesia & India -good that Cornell's NY Campus shares Roosevelt Island with Tata ) Fitting for alumni whose action networks celebrate servant leadership deep data. girl empowerment cultures or pedagogy of the oppressed as last best chance of youth being the sustainability generation. Chimes especially for me as dad met Von Neumann in 1951 and was asked to survey what goods people would do with 100 times more tech intel every decade which became our 1984 book 2025 report https://www.rationaloptimist.com/blog/death-of-a-great-optimist/    - last edition being compiled now if anyone has Abedian or meta-womens consciousness platforms to linkin.  Singapore Grows Food on Top of Skyscrapers—and Anywhere Else It Can Find

The island nation harnesses technology and tradition to wean itself from imports: A photo essay.

EconomistFood.com what have the worlds of sustainability and food networkers learnt from each other since fazle abed joined up smart womens free marketers

Expoential lessons concerning food - see laso oecd and #aiforgood view on how tech can most help- of course ai earth ai climate and ai food involve largesly simlar gps mapping which needs ti be both oopen and diverse enoiugh if ai food is to multiply sustainmability and not extinction; there are also complicated interactions with ai oceans- not just as to whether fish as a major nuritiona resource will suvive but in every way the externalities of teh ocean are often abused by the biggest corpoirations (the ocean has semes such a vast dumping grounmd and onme not patroled by any owner)

how to grow enough food to end starvation was the first lesson and business microfranchsie cluster researched among abed's 100000 vilagers from 1972

fiortunately borlaug alumni had reache Asia by 1950- japan taiwan korea south had all started celebrating how local farmers could be many times more efficient and effective especially with rice the crop that the wprld depends most on to end local starvation

abed designed rice mjicxrfranchsie first of all brac food/human energy solutions- quickly joined by veggies- rice alone doews not mnormally have enough vitamns for kids (eg nioght blindness is one form of stunting - if a childs first 1000 days are nor dietary sufficient neither body or mind will ever recover fully)

over the last 50 yeras the world population has more than doubled but not evfenly - asian countries populations have in soem cases tropled whereas the richjest white nations have stopped grwoing populations ; overall what has hapened is there is no overalol shoratge of food but
local distribution can go wrong

climate is changing food suceure/insecure places fast

according to nuclear experst are agricultural chains have specific frabilities such that even a small nuclear war will heve a knock on consequence of losing at least one eight of humans

if we are goiung to get to net zero - up to a quarter of emisso9ns are caused by muddled food markets - eg 1 flying fresho food ariound the word; flying some processed food around teh world twice; failiing to celebarte local family slow food feasts - even though this can bting joy and livelihods to community

in many cases local governemt food for poor sercvies are 10 or more teiems less efficient tahn optimal cases including tehwashington dc nbased woeld kitchen

India’s Zomato plans rebrand into Eternal

Indian food delivery major Zomato is looking to internally rebrand itself to Eternal, which will encompass its main business as well as its portfolio companies such as Blinkit, Hyperpure, and Feeding India, The Economic Times reported.

Companies operating under Eternal will act as “peers” to each other and will work as a “super-team” that aims to build a single organization, CEO Deepinder Goyal announced on Zomato’s Slack channel.

Currently, Eternal is used as the company’s identity internally, and the logo is expected to appear at a few places in the office as well as on some company t-shirts.

The development comes a week after Zomato saw its share value dip over 14% after the expiration of its pre-IPO investor lock-in period. The market capitalization of the food platform reached US$4.7 billion – a steep drop from the US$12.5 billion figure it had when it went public.

Are healthy diets affordable? Using new data to guide agricultural and food policy

Follow the event on Twitter #FoodPricesforNutrition

Food security is a basic human need, but two in five people – or around 3 billion citizens of our planet – cannot afford a healthy diet. Diet costs have risen in recent months, with food price inflation above 5% in many countries as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, climate shocks, the war in Ukraine and other factors. Urgent action is needed to address food insecurity in 2022.

This event brought together a panel of experts from countries, international agencies, and academia to discuss new food security indicators on diet costs and affordability and their use in guiding agricultural and food policy both globally and domestically. These indicators were developed by the Food Prices for Nutrition project by Tufts University, the International Food Policy Research Institute, and the World Bank, in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. They are featured in the United Nations flagship annual State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report, launched on July 6th, and can be used to inform and monitor a wide range of programs at the global, national, and subnational levels including those focused on Zero Hunger – the second of the Sustainable Development Goals.

i have seen more data on how masses of people ae bullied into lying to each other than any other westerner alive - unless you know better - rsvp chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk

in earlier times,  founders of great ad agencies knew a lot more than me - eg rosser reeves david ogily leo burnett- i studied all of their lessons and though the 1990s developed a genre of what if the greatest brands -three types of governances nations corporates charities - were those that sustained youth not those that used education to destroy lives matter see eg triple issue of journal of marketing managmeent which i guest edited in 1999 and which followed up the 1984 book www.2025report.com which i co-authored with the economist's norman macrae -

when i prese3nted my findings at my one and only visit to harvard, i was told- you may be right but nobody would get funding fir that in usa- go away this upset me in several ways-
i found this a disappointing appraisal-  partly because i worked for a partner of harvard/mit marketing leaders in the1980s collecting data on what societies wanted from the biggest branded corporations..
.
at the end of the 1980s, the harvard professor exited the global businees he had created  leaving our regional company in france to find what turned out to be the black knight robert maxwell who defrauded pensioners,  ruined market research transparency,  silioised academic journals and whose youngest daughter became epstein's main new york hostess

i am seldom surprised by when the history of media's most powerful moguls -innovations shows the worlds most evil people often connect media-tech leaps  before the most loving- hitler only needed 2 years first comers advantage of being the only person with audio recordings- while he brainwashed people 24 hours a day before world war 2 with one taped speech british speaking allies including roosevelt and churchill could only make live radio broadcasts- one time instead of 365/24/7 in one sense fake media of 2010s is nowt new; in another sense the ways machine intel analyses bog data linked to media barons will destroy the human race unless we demand teachers and youth become literate and those olders controling pension and other funds come out to bat for youth and edutech

additional uschinaweb2020 - in the beginning (of modern era of us-china - see american wine named after jinping) jinping grew his knowhow from exchanges with idaho ;; his world deep understanding of food curriculum has progressed ; usa not so much - you have to ask how us media let this happen  -see triple special issue journal marketing management - risks to 21st c of fake media and purposelses

duther cases how a us hedge fund artisan destoyed europe's number 1 leader of sustainble food markets emanuel faber governce by the biggest

1972 saw birth of the most purposeful organisation of 10000 global corporations i have researched

its founder fazle abed died dec 2019- here we continue discussions on who might want to linkin his relay -coalition of 50 universities that live up to fazle abeds belief in first sustainability generations' youth particularly women who hold up half the sky- if you can help chat with me at chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk or +1 240 316 8157

[7:05 AM, 2/10/2021] Chris Macrae: my favorite read in january - A Better Resolution For The New Year: Set Attainable Goals  ..Kim Starkey  writing in forbes

Leadership Strategy

As the CEO of a grantmaking foundation that seeks to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the world’s poorest people by multiplying the impact of high-performing leaders, I have a strong professional interest in the science of setting and achieving goals. Indeed, it is a topic in which I have recently been immersed, in part through research that I have conducted with my colleague Maya DiRado Andrews, an Olympic gold medalist. It is also top-of-mind as our sector marks the one year anniversary of the death of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, the founder of BRAC, who used rigorous goal setting to transform the organization he started into one of the largest, most effective nonprofits in the world.

While disciplined and effective goal setting is critical to our social sector even in “normal” times, it is especially critical during this extended pandemic period in which we face rapidly escalating needs; the necessity to reinvent delivery models; a challenging fundraising environment; and unprecedented levels of uncertainty. If ever there were a time to eschew overly-broad and open-ended ambitions like “end global poverty” in favor of realistic, measurable, and attainable goals that will truly help bring extreme poverty to an end, this is it. For guidance in so doing, I highly recommend the example of top athletes who daily push themselves to achieve more. Indeed, as my Olympian colleague and I have discovered, organizational leaders who excel at their jobs—including such high-performing social sector leaders as the late Sir Fazle—exhibit many of the same qualities that top athletes use to summon peak performance in their field.

[6:14 PM, 2/14/2021] Chris Macrae: the 20th annual report on social entrepreneurs by world economic forum had a special dedication to sir fazle abed; also i found that mit published a special davos issue inspired mainly by fazle abed back in 2008!- i have attached one page from a great fazle abed paper in this issue- if you would like pdfs of the whole issue or of 20th weforum report please say
